Bifurcation scenario for a two-dimensional static airfoil exhibiting trailing edge stall

چکیده
We numerically investigate stalling flow around a static airfoil at high Reynolds numbers using the Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations (RANS) closed with Spalart–Allmaras turbulence model. An arclength continuation method allows to identify three branches of steady solutions, which form characteristic inverted S-shaped curve as angle attack is varied. Global stability analyses these solutions reveal existence two unstable modes: low-frequency mode, for angles in stall region, and high-frequency vortex shedding larger attack. The mode bifurcates several times along solutions: there are Hopf bifurcations, two-fold degenerate eigenvalue saddle-node bifurcations. This induces cyclic separation reattachment airfoil. Unsteady simulations RANS confirm large-amplitude periodic that oscillate phase space. analysis space shows that, when decreasing attack, solution collides middle-branch thus disappears via homoclinic bifurcation orbits. Finally, one-equation nonlinear model introduced disappearance limit cycle, increasing due

LES tests on airfoil trailing edge serration
In the present study, a large number of acoustic simulations are carried out for a low noise airfoil with different Trailing Edge Serrations (TES). The Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings (FWH) acoustic analogy is used for noise prediction at trailing edge. The acoustic solver is running on the platform of our in-house incompressible flow solver EllipSys3D. The flow solution is first obtained from the Lar...
متن کاملUnsteady Aerodynamics and Trailing-edge Vortex Sheet of An Airfoil
Unsteady flow models of wings and airfoils have been studied to understand the aerodynamic performance of natural flyers and provide improved maneuverability for micro aerial vehicles (MAVs). Vortex methods have been extensively applied to reduce the dimensionality of these aerodynamic models, based on the proper estimation of the distribution and evolution of the vortices in the wake. In such ...

Uncertainty quantification for the trailing-edge noise of a controlled-diffusion airfoil
Two deterministic incompressible flow solvers are coupled with a non-intrusive stochastic collocation method to propagate several aerodynamic uncertainties encountered in a standard trailing-edge noise experiment of a low-speed Controlled-Diffusion (CD) airfoil to predict the far-field noise. Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) and Large-Eddy Simulations (LES) are applied to the same restric...
